The installation of three new art exhibits are now on display inside the terminal at Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. All three exhibits coincide with the mission of the Airport Art Program.
A photographic art installation featuring the work of Susan Guiceis now on display in the Concourse of the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. Titled “Adaptation: Our Coastal Islands and Waterways”, Guice’s aerial photographs capture the Gulf Coast region from an entirely new perspective. “I fly quite a few hours each week, so I have the luxury of capturing images when the combination of landscape and light create that special golden Moment,” said Guice.
Tuskegee Airmen Aviation Artist Clint Martin dedicated an art exhibit to venerate the men and women of the armed forces and to celebrate the Honor Flight program from GPT. An art exhibit unveiling was held on April 24, 2012, prior to the arrival of the third MS Gulf Coast Honor Flight. “This outstanding exhibit showcases the story and meaning behind the Tuskegee Airmen, and fits very well with our Airport Art Program,” said Airport Commissioner Frank Genzer.
The last exhibit features Youth Art from a tri-county youth art competition structured and created by Negrotto’s Gallery. The competition was sponsored and held at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi last December. The next art competition is scheduled to be held February of next year. “The art competition inspires creative young minds and supports the efforts of the teachers in their continued dedication to the students and for parents to help nurture the artist within them all”, said Romy Simpson with Negrotto’s Gallery.
The Airport Art Program allows for a means to enhance the experience of airport users, showcase and educate visitors and locals on the cultural heritage, and showcase the artistic development of the MS Gulf Coast Region. Other artists who wish to submit their work for consideration in the Airport Art Program are urged to contact aduke@flygpt.com for more information.
